Aberdeen captain Graeme Shinnie has been linked with a host of clubs, including Old FIrm duo Rangers and Celtic, as well as Championship side Derby County.
Gordon Smith has urged reported Rangers and Celtic target Graeme Shinnie to move to England because it would enhance his football knowledge and he would benefit financially compared to staying in the Scottish Premiership.
The Bristol Post recently reported that Aberdeen’s versatile midfielder Shinnie is attracting interest from a number of clubs, including the Old Firm duo.
Added with that, the Derby Telegraph also reports that Rams boss Frank Lampard has spoken to the highly-sought-after-player, whose contract at Pittodrie runs out in the summer.
Speaking to PLZ Soccer official YouTube account, former Gers man Smith spoke about Shinnie and what he should do with his future as his contract runs out.
“There are two things about it, firstly, you want to try and increase your football knowledge and experiences so when you retire you can say ‘I played in England too’,” Smith told PLZ Soccer.
“The second aspect would be the financial one. No doubt about it that the English teams, even in the Championship, are paying a lot more money that Scottish Premier League teams are paying.
“I would say to him the best thing to do in terms of his football experience I think it’s best he goes to England.”
Shinnie has been a key player for Aberdeen in recent seasons and amongst the constant dominance from Glasgow giants Celtic, Derek McIness could argue that his side have been the second best team in Scotland over recent years.
It remains to be seen what happens with Shinnie’s future, but either way, a move to either Glasgow club or down South to England will enhance his career.
If he were to make the switch to the English Championship and Derby County then he will more than likely be helping a team trying to earn promotion to the Premier League next season – that’s if Lampard’s side haven’t already made that jump because they are still in with a chance of earning promotion this term.
