Mark Warburton’s Glasgow Rangers should make a move for Ross County defender Andrew Davies, suggests Gordon Smith.

Gordon Smith has suggested in The Sunday Post that Ross County defender Andrew Davies would be a good signing for Rangers in the January transfer window.

The former Rangers attacker believes that Davies would do a good job for the Scottish Premiership giants.

Smith, though, does not believe that Mark Warburton’s side would be able to secure the services of the 32-year-old defender in the January transfer window.

Davies has been on the books of County since 2015 and has a contract with the Staggies until June 2017, according to Transfermarkt.co.uk.

“I know Clint Hill and Philippe Senderos were brought to the club with exactly this thought in mind,” Smith wrote in The Sunday Post. “The first named has been OK, but is 38. The latter just hasn’t worked out.

“Andrew Davies of Ross County is the sort of player I am talking about. He is someone who has always impressed me and looks tailor-made for the job.

“As he is under contract at Dingwall, I feel Rangers may have to go to the English lower leagues (from where Davies was picked up by County) to find the man they are looking for.”

Rangers are second in the Scottish Premiership table at the moment with 39 points from 21 matches. The Gers are 19 points behind leaders and Old Firm rivals Celtic, who have a game in hand.

Meanwhile, County currently find themselves sixth in the standings with 23 points from 21 games.

Rangers will return to action on January 21 when they take on Motherwell at Ibrox in the fourth round of the Scottish Cup before facing them again a week later away from home in the Scottish Premiership.
