Gordon Smith predicts Kenny Miller has played his last Rangers game

Glasgow Rangers forward Kenny Miller has reportedly been exiled from the first-team at Ibrox by Pedro Caixinha.

Gordon Smith has told The Sunday Post that he believes that Kenny Miller has already played his final game for Rangers and is expecting the veteran to move away from Ibrox during the January transfer window.

According to a recent report from the Daily Record, Miller has been exiled from the first-team and has been ordered to train with the youth side in the wake of the Gers’ defeat to Celtic in the first Old Firm meeting of the season.

Though there has been no confirmation from Pedro Caixinha as to what triggered the axe seemingly being wielded on the 37-year-old, the Record suggested that Graham Dorrans was also in trouble with the boss earlier in the week for handing Miller the armband against the Hoops without asking the Portuguese beforehand.

Dorrans appears to have moved himself back into Caixinha’s good books with a solid display in the win over Hamilton on Friday night. And Smith suggested that the midfielder has avoided making his own situation as bleak as Miller’s now appears to be – with the former Gers midfielder adding that the forward’s days at Ibrox look to now be numbered.

“Dorrans had reportedly been criticised in Monday’s team meeting for showing a lack of respect when handing over the captain’s armband in the Old Firm game to Kenny Miller without first seeking the manager’s say so,” he told The Sunday Post.

“Having waited for so many years to get to Rangers, the club he has supported since he was a boy, Dorrans clearly was not about to give up his opportunity.

“That is what siding with Miller would have meant. I don’t believe we will see Kenny in a Light Blues jersey again, and a move away in the January window looks the likeliest outcome.”

It is difficult to cast judgement on whether Miller deserves to be moved on in January without knowing definitively what has caused his exile from the first-team, but given how ruthless Caixinha has shown himself to be since arriving at Ibrox, it would not be a surprise if he did leave if they can find a bidder.

The likes of Michael O’Halloran and Harry Forrester may not reflect too favourably on their time working under Caixinha having quickly fallen out of favour and struggled for game-time before their summer moves, so Gers supporters will probably have few arguments with Smith’s prediction that Miller has probably played his last game for the club.
