Glasgow Rangers manager Pedro Caixinha seems to be under pressure at the moment.

Gordon Smith has written in The Sunday Post that Rangers chairman Dave King should sack Pedro Caixinha as manager if results do not improve after the first 11 Scottish Premiership games next season.

Caixinha has come under pressure recently due to Rangers’ failure to go past the Europa League first round qualifying.

The Gers were aiming to progress to the group stage of the Europa League for the 2017-18 campaign, but there will no be European football for the Glasgow giants next season.

Rangers won the first leg of the tie against Luxembourg minnows Progres Niederkorn 1-0 at Ibrox last month, but they suffered a 2-0 defeat in the second leg away from home earlier this month.

Caixinha was appointed the Rangers manager in March 2017 following the departure of Mark Warburton, who is now in charge of Nottingham Forest in the Championship.

The Portuguese coach could only lead the Gers to a third-placed finish in the Scottish Premiership last season.

Former Rangers star Smith, who is now 62 years of age, has written in an open letter to Rangers chairman King to sack Caixinha if results after the 11 league games next season are not good.

“As chairman, it must alarm you there haven’t been any signs of progress under Pedro,” Smith wrote in his open letter to King in The Sunday Post. “So if the he is to be given time, it must be conditional.

“If things have not seriously picked up by the time Rangers have played their first 11 league games – the first quarter of the campaign – then I would urge you to change your manager.”
