Brendan Rodgers’s Celtic reportedly want to sign Manchester United’s Scott McTominay on loan in the January transfer window.
According to The Scottish Sun, Celtic are interested in signing McTominay from United in the January transfer window.
It has been reported that the Glasgow giants want to secure the services of the 22-year-old Scotland international on loan.
Former Rangers star Smith has admitted his surprise at the youngster being linked with a move to Scotland, and does not believe that he is as good as the player he could replace at Celtic, Scott Brown – who has been on the books of the Hoops since the summer of 2007 when he joined from Hibernian for a transfer fee reported by The Guardian to be worth £4.4 million.
Smith said about McTominay on PLZ Soccer: “If you look at what he has done so far in the game at his age, I think Scott Brown is a better player than him, controls the game a lot better and can play attacking style.
“McTominay probably needs a bit of experience now because it looks like he is not going to get a game under Solskjaer.”
Smith added: “He probably needs to go somewhere to get a game. I am surprised it is going to be Scotland.”
Good signing for Celtic?
Celtic are strong in the midfield department, and while McTominay is a good and talented young player, it is hard to see the 22-year-old enhance the quality of the Hoops’ team by a lot.
Perhaps it will be better for the Scotland international – who earns £25,000 per week as salary, according to Spotrac.com – if he finds a club in the Premier League or in the Championship to continue his progress and development.
