Rangers will travel to Kilmarnock on the last day of the Scottish Premiership season.
Gordon Smith has astonishingly claimed that Rangers might decide that they don’t want to play at Rugby Park anymore after Kilmarnock decided to cut their away allocation.
Killie confirmed on their official Twitter account on Tuesday that they have decided to halve the Gers away tickets for their Scottish Premiership clash which is set to take place on the final day of the season.
It has provoked an angry response from the Glasgow club, who might now decide against accepting the 8,000 tickets in the near future, as reported by the Times.
Speaking to PLZ Soccer’s official YouTube account, former SFA executive Smith shared his thoughts on the recent controversy.
“I think they [Kilmarnock] want to have a celebration because they think they can qualify for Europe,” Smith told PLZ Soccer. “And they want this match to be remembered by the Kilmarnock fans by bringing more of them in.
“I can understand to a degree why they would do it. But I can also understand Rangers being annoyed. What they [Rangers] are saying is ‘we sell all these tickets for you twice a season and you get big crowds and we bring in a fair bit of money for you’.
“Rangers might even say ‘we might not even come and play at Rugby Park anymore’.
There is no doubt that the decision by Kilmarnock has caused quite a stir and the Ibrox faithful aren’t too pleased with the news.
It remains to be seen what will happen next because it is highly likely that this saga is not over and it might even prove problematic for Killie down the line.
Nonetheless, in the Scottish Premiership, Steve Clarke’s side are sitting third in the table on 58 points and they are eight points behind second-placed Rangers.
