Jeff Stelling told Soccer Saturday on Sky Sports (28/08/21 at 1:05 pm) that there were ‘Arsenal fans leaving’ the Etihad just after Granit Xhaka was sent off during their 5-0 thumping at the hands of Manchester City.

The Sky presenter actually defended Xhaka’s high tackle yesterday and claimed that five years ago the reaction would have been ‘what a tackle’.

Another game. More misery for Arsenal supporters. This time they were slapped and bullied around by Pep Guardiola’s side.

And if some thought it couldn’t get worse, well it just has as Mikel Arteta’s side have lost their opening three games of the season and they now sit bottom of the Premier League table.

Nonetheless, as Xhaka was handed his marching orders yesterday, this is what Stelling had to say in the Sky studios about the Arsenal fans in the stands.

“It’s his fourth red card for Arsenal,” said Stelling. “Five years ago, you are on your feet saying ‘what a tackle’.

“Nowadays, it might be a red card. But goodness me, there are Arsenal fans leaving. There are Arsenal fans leaving the Etihad, at the moment.

“They are walking out of the exit door as Granit Xhaka walks towards the dressing rooms.”

In truth, not many will blame those travelling supporters for their actions, because those who waited until the full-time whistle should be applauded for having the patience to stick around.

Even though Arsenal finished outside of Europe last season, there seems to be no stopping to this decline of utter disaster and they are headed one way.

It does seem as though if Mikel Arteta sticks around then the North London outfit are fighting relegation, and nothing else.

However, whilst Arteta survived last term, there’s no way he will still be in charge for too long if things continue in this vain.
