With the January transfer window on the horizon, there will be plenty of focus on Tottenham and Antonio Conte, and also Jesse Lingard.

It will be the Italian’s first opportunity to strengthen his Spurs squad, and according to ESPN, he may well bring Lingard to N17.

What’s the story?

Well, ESPN believe the 28-year-old is a target for Tottenham, following the news that he’s set to leave Manchester United for nothing.

As per The Times, contract talks with Lingard have collapsed at Old Trafford, with the 32-cap England international growing frustrated at Manchester United’s behaviour.

One man who would seemingly be in favour of Tottenham signing the attacking midfielder is Gary Lineker, who used to play for Spurs.

In the past, the BBC Match of the Day host has often been wowed by Lingard, and appears to be a big fan of his.

Lineker once said: “It was another cracking goal from Jesse Lingard, his fifth in the last six games. What a finish and what a player he’s turning into.”

You can see what else Lineker has said about the Spurs target below.

Should Tottenham sign Jesse Lingard?

The Sun believe Lingard could be available for as little as £10m in January.

At that price, it would be a no-brainer for Conte and Fabio Paratici to get involved.

Lingard has bundles of energy, something Conte will surely admire, while his ability to pick the ball up in between the lines and make things happen is another key trait which few players possess.

In just 16 Premier League appearances on loan at West Ham last season, Lingard scored nine goals and provided five assists.

Aside from Dele Alli, who is not the player he once was, Spurs don’t really have a player like Lingard at Hotspur Way.

Keep an eye on this saga, as it wouldn’t surprise us to see Daniel Levy sanction a move for the wantaway Manchester United Academy graduate.
