Sammy Ameobi appears to have done just about enough during Bolton Wanderers’ miserable 2018/19 to justify a new start in the Championship.

According to The Post, Nottingham Forest are set to sign the 27-year-old on a free transfer. Ameobi was released by the cash-strapped Trotters after their relegation to League One, despite the fact that he had another 12 months left on his contract, but are Forest making the right call giving the enigmatic winger a fresh start?

As one Trotters supporter pointed out, it’s not a case of ‘skill’ – but Ameobi’s ‘will’ often leaves a lot to be desired.

Can Nottingham Forest really afford to carry a player who, while capable of the odd wonder-goal, is also likely to be anonymous and inactive more often than not? Maybe Roy Keane left at the right time.
