Ibrox side Rangers may be interested in Alan Stubbs’s latest comments, amid reported interest in Hibernian hitman Jason Cummings.
Speaking to The Scotsman, newly-appointed Rotherham United boss Alan Stubbs has said that he will not bring any of his old Hibernian players to the New York Stadium.
Stubbs said: “I am a down-to-earth guy and I am a respectful guy. Even though I have a lot of admiration for the players at Hibs, I don’t think you will see me coming in for any of them – out of respect.”
The comments might well be good news for Rangers, who have been linked with a move for striker Jason Cummings.
If Stubbs stays true to his word, the path might be clear for Rangers to move for the 20-year-old, who netted 18 Scottish Championship goals for Hibs this past season.
Of course, other clubs may be in for him also, while there are also strained relations between both sides following the Scottish Cup final last month.
Hibs beat Rangers 3-2 courtesy of a last-minute goal, before supporters of the Edinburgh club staged a full-time pitch invasion in which a number of Gers players were reportedly assaulted.
Rangers released a statement slamming Hibernian for their refusal to blame their own fans for the carnage, but would the friction get in the way of business?
The fact is that money talks and Rangers – who certainly need somebody other than a 36-year-old Kenny Miller to rival Martyn Waghorn up front for their return to the top flight – could get him if they wanted.
Cummings hardly dissuaded interest in him this summer, stating he was happy at Easter Road before noting, “Whatever happens, happens” in comments quoted by the Scotsman last month.
