Good news for Newcastle, Stoke and West Ham in pursuit of Liverpool’s Danny Ings as Crystal Palace distance themselves.

Newcastle United, Stoke City and West Ham United have been given a boost in their pursuit of Liverpool striker Danny Ings as Crystal Palace manager Roy Hodgson denies link.

All four Premier League clubs were reported to be interested in signing Ings on loan in the January transfer window by the Guardian, but Hodgson says it is the first he’s heard of it.

“We haven’t talked about Danny Ings coming here on loan with anybody,” the 70-year-old told the Croydon Advertiser. “I don’t quite understand how stories appear without checking it out first.

“It’s not coming from me. I like Danny Ings of course, but I like lots of players.

“We have absolutely no idea about his situation, I don’t know how well he has recovered from his injury.

“I don’t know what Liverpool’s situation regarding him is. There would be an awful lot of questions to answer before that happens.

“At the moment we are nowhere near that level of discussion with either Danny Ings or anybody else.”

Ings is back in training with the Reds and has been playing for the Under-23s as the striker gets back to fitness following almost two years out with knee injuries.

The 25-year-old has managed just 12 first team appearances since joining the Merseysiders from Burnley in the summer of 2015 and now looks well down the pecking order.

Roberto Firmino, Daniel Sturridge and Dominic Solanke are now all ahead of Ings – who earned his one and only cap for England to date in October 2015 – for a place in his preferred number nine role.

It now looks like the forward may have to leave Anfield to kickstart his career, but after Hodgson’s comments it seems Palace won’t be his next destination.
