Liverpool fans seem to be of the belief that Manchester City would be making a mistake by appointing Brendan Rodgers.
A big mistake?
The Daily Mail reported last night that Rodgers was going to reject the Newcastle United job, as he is already being lined up to takeover at City if Pep Guardiola departs.
Rodgers, of course, is well known at Anfield – after managing Liverpool for a spell during his younger years.
Rodgers was not quite able to take Liverpool to their first ever Premier League title.
He has since gone on to impress with Leicester City, although they have had a nasty tendency to fall short in the final moments under his stewardship.
And Liverpool fans feel that if City did replace Guardiola with Rodgers it may give them an opportunity to become the dominant force in the Premier League.
Changing of the guard?
Liverpool and City have developed a rivalry over recent years as they have unquestionably been the two stand out teams in England.
Jurgen Klopp’s men have consistently battled with City for the title, with both sides proving to be relentlessly brilliant.
Whoever has to take over from Guardiola at City will have a mammoth job on their hands.
But Liverpool could face a similar problem when they come to replace Klopp in the future, as the German is such a strong presence at the club now.
