The Premier League fixtures have been announced – how does QPR fan Paul Moore feel about the upcoming season ahead?
Seeing the fixture list means the new season isn’t that far away and as a football fan that can only be a good thing.
We couldn’t ask for a better start, Swansea City don’t have a great record at Loftus Road and it will be new boss Michael Laudrup’s first game in charge. It’s a great chance to start the season with points in the bag.
The first thing most QPR fans look for is the local clash and it comes on September 15th; Chelsea at home.
I’m sure this will be changed for a live broadcast but I like that we play them early. The return fixture at Stamford Bridge is January 1st; what a way to start the New Year.
It’s going to be nice going to a game on Boxing Day; West Bromwich Albion at home.
On Tuesday 29th January we host the Premier League champions Manchester City; yes we lost to them twice last season but only by the odd goal and the last game of last season they needed extra time.
January is a month where it’s an all London affair apart from the City game; at least it will save a few pennies for more away games.
Our last game is away to Liverpool; I just hope we don’t need the points as we did last season.
Mark Hughes has made a few good signings and I’m sure he’ll make a few more. The word ‘free’ is a favoured word to most football chairmen but what the manager has brought in I can only think he’s waiting to make offers.
Ryan Nelsen has signed a contract and Mark Hughes knows him well from their Blackburn Rovers days. With respect to the New Zealand captain I think he’s been brought in as cover; he’s hardly in the first stages of his career.
Andy Johnson is also supposed to sign and again I think it’s as back up. This is what makes me think that Hughes is using the ‘war chest’ on some big name players; according to some rumours Chris Samba, who’s having a bad time in Russia; a figure of 12 million is being mooted.
The price may be high, but he would be a very good player to add to the team. It’s onwards and upwards from here.
