Liverpool’s first-team goalkeeping coach, John Achterberg, has wished Loris Karius ‘good luck’ on Instagram after he secured a move to Newcastle United on a short-term contract.
In the summer, Liverpool parted ways with Karius after his contract expired, and within months of leaving the Premier League scene, he is back in no time, this time in the colours of Newcastle.
Eddie Howe pushed for this move, after the summer 2022 window slammed shut, because back-up keeper, Karl Darlow, has picked up an ankle injury.

Karius has experience of being in the spotlight, none bigger than playing in the 2018 Champions League final.
It was a game to forget for the German and a match that pretty much ended his Liverpool career because, since then, he has been on two loan deals, most recently at Union Berlin.
Nonetheless, when Karius’ move to St James’ Park was confirmed, Liverpool’s GK coach posted in the comments section ‘Congratulations and Good luck’.
Newcastle favourite Shay Given, who has also donned those number one gloves, added ‘Best of luck at the Toon, Loris’.
CAN KARIUS TURN HIS CAREER AROUND?
Nick Pope is the undisputed number one under Howe and no-one will be dethroning the summer signing from his spot, any time soon.
It will be interesting to see how much game time Karius actually gets under Howe, a lot will depend on Darlow’s recovery.
But if Karius wants to turn his career around, then he needs to play on a regular basis, so he can provide himself with that chance because he has plenty of time left in the locker and that might come after this current chapter.
