Aston Villa are in talks to sign striking sensation Ruben Shakpoke from recently-relegated Norwich City, according to AllNigeriaSoccer, while Sil Swinkels is also on his way to the Midlands.

The future is bright at Villa Park.

Under the stewardship of Wes Edens and Nassef Sawiris, the Midland giants are looking ensure that their return to the big time is more than just a flying visit.

And, after avoiding relegation on the final day of the Premier League season, Aston Villa will now press ahead with their attempts to turn their already envious academy into England’s answer to La Masia.

In Mark Harrison, Villa have nabbed one of the most highly-rated Academy Managers in the country from local rivals West Brom.

Louie Barry also made the short trip down the A4040, via a brief spell at Barcelona, with the £3 million purchase of a 16-year-old striker a surefire sign of Aston Villa’s lofty ambitions.

Shakpoke, who scored 11 goals in one game a few years ago, would not cost anywhere near as much, given that he has rejected the chance to sign a scholarship deal with Norwich.

While a deal for Shakpoke is far from done just yet, it does seem that Aston Villa have wrapped up the signing of Dutch midfielder Sil Swinkels.

Vitesse Arnhem have confirmed on Twitter that Swinkels is leaving the Gelredome for Aston Villa, wishing the teenager ‘good luck’ in England.
