Gary Lineker has taken to Twitter to react after watching Bernardo Silva miss an open goal in Manchester City’s 2-0 defeat to Paris Saint-Germain.

What’s the story?

Well, in the 26th minute, Raheem Sterling thundered a header onto the bar following a fine cross from Kevin De Bruyne.

When he tried to follow in, Bernardo somehow flicked the ball against the bar again when he had the goal at his mercy.

The ball then drops down to give the £43m man another chance, although the bounce is unkind to him and it’s eventually cleared away.

Unsurprisingly, Lineker was shocked at what he witnessed.

You can see the BBC Match of the Day host’s tweet in full below.

It was a moment which proved costly, as PSG went on to double their 1-0 lead thanks to Lionel Messi’s wondergoal in the second half.

Bernardo Silva cannot miss chances like this for Manchester City

If Pep Guardiola wants to win the Champions League this season, he cannot have any of his players being this wasteful.

Of course, these things happen, and Bernardo scores that chance nine times out of ten.

However, to win the Champions League – arguably Europe’s greatest club competition – you must be ruthless. You cannot let the opposition off like that.

PSG are also desperate for Champions League glory, and this result could already prove costly, just two games into the group stage.

If PSG now go on to top the group, there’s a chance Manchester City finish second and receive a harder Last 16 tie.

Hopefully, Bernardo learns from this unbelievable moment.
