Lewis Morgan has told The Scottish Sun that Steven Gerrard’s Rangers starting to compete with Celtic is good for Scottish football.

Rangers are the runaway leaders in the Scottish Premiership, and Celtic may not even end up second in the table this season.

The Hoops have won the league title in Scotland for the past nine seasons, but Neil Lennon’s side are simply not doing well at the moment.

Rangers have picked up 72 points from 26 matches so far this season, while Celtic have bagged 49 points from 24 games.

Former Celtic winger Morgan, who has earned two caps for Scotland and is now on the books of inter Miami in the USA, believes that Rangers starting to challenge the Hoops for top honours is only good for Scottish football.

Morgan told The Scottish Sun: “It’s obviously been an unprecedented season. Celtic had ambitions of winning ten. Nothing is finished until it’s finished, but you’ve got to give credit to Rangers because they’re where they are on merit.

“I know the guys in the Celtic dressing room will be hurting and wanting to put everything right. They have got so much quality and leadership in that squad. They have got experience of winning things, so they know they can do that.

“I grew up with Rangers and Celtic going head to head and it looks like we’re getting back to that. As Celtic players and fans you want to embrace those challenges.

“There are peaks and troughs in football and you have got to enjoy getting the best out of each other. It’s only going to be good for the country to have that sort of competition.”

Good for Scottish football?

Celtic have long dominated Scottish football, but things appear to be changing now.

Rangers are doing well in Europe as well, and perhaps in the coming years, the Scottish Premiership title race will be more competitive than it has been recently.

Meanwhile, 90min has claimed that Burnley have failed with a bid for Celtic-owned defender Jack Hendry.

It has been reported that KV Oostende, where defender Hendry is currently on loan at, do not want the loan spell to be cut short now.
