David James thinks Wolves are securing a ‘good deal’ on transfer deadline day if they sign Aston Villa target, Craig Dawson, from West Ham United, as he told Sky Sports News.
The former Villa goalkeeper thinks it will also be a ‘good move’ for Dawson, who is set to depart West Ham and move closer to home in the Midlands.
Bruno Lage’s side have lost two senior centre-backs in the summer transfer window – Conor Coady and Willy Boly – both were the manager’s calls.
But he is set to replace the duo with another experienced head in 32-year-old Dawson, who helped guide the Hammers to Europe in recent seasons.
It is a top purchase for Wolves because Aston Villa were also looking to add the hard-hitting defender to their ranks this summer.
Nonetheless, when former England goalkeeper James was asked about Wolves winning the race for Dawson, he issued the following response.
“It would be a good move for Dawson,” said James. “Wolves have got back to their tight defence. Offensively is Wolves’ problem.
“It’s a good buy and a good deal. But for him, it would be a good move.”
DENDONCKER HEADING TO VILLA?
It’s all a bit of a merry-go-round with everyone involved in every deal that seems to be taking place on transfer deadline day.
With Dawson set to leave the London Stadium, those at West Ham were seemingly keen to add Leander Dendoncker to their ranks from Wolves.
But it seems as though Villa are going to win that race for the versatile Belgium international and the 27-year-old is due for a medical in B6.
