Ian Poveda gave Leeds United a glimpse of his frightening talent today.
Marcelo Bielsa awarded the 20-year-old a long-awaited full debut for Leeds, having joined way back in January.
The former Manchester City attacker started this afternoon’s visit to Derby County and was one of the visitors’ best players.
Poveda’s sliced clearance led to Chris Martin firing Derby ahead early in the second half, but that error did not define his performance.
The jet-heeled winger was a constant threat to the hosts on the right-hand side of Leeds’ attack and looked like he lives to go at players.
He offered the type of penetration that Helder Costa often doesn’t and suffice to say that fans of the Elland Road club were well impressed by him this afternoon.
Here’s how they reacted on Twitter:
What’s more impressive is that Poveda only had 20 minutes of Championship football under his belt before today.
Based on today’s performance, he would’ve torn apart a lot of full-backs this season and it’ll be interesting to see whether Bielsa thinks he’s ready for the Premier League, after Leeds were promoted this weekend.
The experience isn’t there yet, but the confidence and ability absolutely is and it’s taken a while, but it looks like Leeds might’ve pulled off a coup here.
