Goncalo Ramos has responded to how he felt about replacing Cristiano Ronaldo, after scoring a World Cup hat-trick for Portugal in their 6-1 win against Switzerland.

After coming into the side for the country’s greatest ever player, the world was intrigued to see what the Benfica striker brings to the table.

It is safe to say the proof was in the pudding, as the £25 million-rated prodigy (as per 90 Min) scored a treble of strikes that the great Ronaldo himself would have been proud of.

Interestingly enough, Jornal de Noticias have claimed that Newcastle United were interested in signing the youngster, before completing a deal for Alexander Isak.

Speaking after his breakout display, Goncalo Ramos discussed the prospect of replacing Cristiano Ronaldo in the World Cup as Portugal ran riot against Switzerland.

“Cristiano Ronaldo is our leader”, he said, as relayed by GOAL.

Ramos continued, “He’s the captain, he’s the leader and we always look forward to playing side by side with him. He is a reference and an idol to many of us.”

“Cristiano [Ronaldo], Robert Lewandowski and Zlatan Ibrahimovic are my role models.”

In our view: Newcastle should not regret missing out on Ramos

Yes, Goncalo Ramos shone as a Cristiano Ronaldo replacement in his splendid showing at the World Cup.

However, Newcastle United have a superb goalscorer within their own ranks in Alexander Isak.

While the 23-year-old has been injured for a majority of his time at St. James’ Park so far, he has looked the part against Liverpool and Bournemouth.

In fact, Isak’s silky dribbling and searing pace makes him the perfect No.9 in Eddie Howe’s transition-heavy system.

While Goncalo Ramos seems like a superstar in the making, Newcastle have their very own gem up top in Alexander Isak, who looks set to dominate the Premier League.
