Tottenham Hotspur beat Wolverhampton Wanderers on penalties on Wednesday night, with Pierluigi Gollini the hero in the shoot-out.

Tanguy Ndombele fired Tottenham ahead at Molineux before Harry Kane bagged a second.

Leander Dendoncker brought Wolves back into the game, and Daniel Podence finished past Gollini to bring Wolves level.

The game went to penalties, with Gollini saving from Dendoncker. Ruben Neves and Conor Coady misfired from the spot too, handing Tottenham the win.

Gollini takes his chance

There wasn’t a great deal Gollini could do with either Wolves goal in normal time.

When it came to saving a penalty, Gollini came up trumps. The Italian had done his research and guessed right when Dendoncker stepped up.

Gollini won’t get many chances this season with Hugo Lloris the clear first-choice goalkeeper at Tottenham.

With a permanent option in his loan deal, Gollini needs to take every chance he gets in order to stay at Tottenham long-term – and he did just that on Wednesday night.

Players praise Tottenham ace Gollini

Gollini took to Instagram to celebrate his penalty save, and received messages from other players congratulating him.

Former Manchester United man Davide Petrucci branded Gollini the ‘Italian Wall’ – a nickname that may just catch on at Tottenham.

Mattia Caldara stated ‘great brother’ to his former Atalanta teammate, with Papu Gomez also loving the save.

Tottenham teammates Japhet Tanganga, Matt Doherty, Sergio Reguilon and Dane Scarlett also congratulated Gollini, who will have taken massive confidence from his display.
