Golf fans are being treated to a real display of world-class golf from many top players this week at The Open Championship.

That includes Lucas Herbert, who shot a joint-record eight-under 62 to storm to the top of the leaderboard on day two.

Remarkably, Sam Burns matched his score shortly after, carding the third-ever 62 at the tournament, all of which have come at Royal Birkdale.

But many fans have been left fuming with the coverage of Burns’ round, having barely witnessed the American play out golfing history at The Open Championship.

Who do you now think will win The Open Championship?

Have any big names played themselves out of it at Birkdale?

The Open coverage slammed after missing Sam Burns’ 62 at Royal Birkdale

Furious with the lack of Burns action on Friday at Royal Birkdale, one fan wrote on X: “Sam Burns 62 with literally 2 shots being shown, what an embarrassment for everyone involved.”

A second agreed, commenting: “I was just thinking the same thing! Was I not paying attention? How does that happen?!”

And others were of the same opinion, saying: “This coverage is insulting,” “Somehow not surprising,” and “Legitimately absurd.”

Other golf fans couldn’t help but agree, noting: “A total embarrassment. What a travesty,” and “I had no idea until he chipped in on 18. Something has to change. That back 9 looked magical.”

And others were quick to mention Burns’ rivals in their angry assessments, saying: “Meanwhile they show every shot Rory [McIlroy] hits when he’s 8 back,” and “The coverage blows. They hardly showed Collin [Morikawa] as well.”

The lowest-scoring rounds in men’s major championship history

It was a tale of two different endings for Burns and Herbert, who can both hold their heads very high after their second rounds.

The American miraculously holed out from the greenside bunker to claim his 62, while the Australian missed a five-foot putt to make a bogey.

Still, they have joined an exclusive group of players to fire such a score at a men’s major championship, with Branden Grace the first to do it at The Open in 2017.

Rickie Fowler and Xander Schauffele then followed suit at the 2023 US Open at Los Angeles Country Club.

Schauffele repeated his heroics at the 2024 PGA Championship at Valhalla, with Shane Lowry also making a 62 at the event.
