Bournemouth’s Jack Wilshere
Jack Wilshere’s deadline day move to Bournemouth was one of the headline grabbing moves back on deadline day, with the once golden boy of English football needing to move on loan in order to play regularly.
He has done so at the Cherries, featuring in 28 games, defying critics who predicted he would be back on the treatment table within weeks.
To that end his season has been a success, but in terms of on pitch production he has not contributed a lot in an attacking sense.
Wilshere is being completely overshadowed by Tottenham star Dele Alli, who has taken his role in the England team and as the media darling of the national game.
Tottenham’s Dele Alli celebrates scoring their first goal
It is easy to see why. Alli has an eye for a spectacular goal, and steps up to influence big matches, netting both goals against Chelsea earlier this season.
Comparing the contribution of the two this season, there is no contest.
| Team | Won Tackles per game | Key Passes per game | Dribbles per game | Shots on target per game | Assists | Goals | Appearances | |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Jack Wilshere | Bournemouth | 0.61 | 1.21 | 2.14 | 0.36 | 2 | 0 | 28 |
| Dele Alli | Tottenham | 1.00 | 1.4 | 1.3 | 1.13 | 5 | 16 | 30 |
This season alone Alli has scored more goals than Wilshere has in his entire career, with the Arsenal ace failing to make the breakthrough this season.
Finding the scoresheet has never been his strong point, but Alli is even outclassing him in terms of being creative, with five assists to Wilshere’s two – the same number as Moussa Sissoko has this season.
Wilshere can view this season as a building step, a bridge to really kicking on next season for Arsenal.
But if he thinks he is close, all he has to look at Dele Alli to see just how far he has got to go.
