Tam McManus has made an amusing remark on Twitter about Rangers right-back James Tavernier.

The former Hibernian forward has jokingly said that the Rangers star could end up winning the Golden Boot in the Europa League from just penalties.

McManus made the remarks while watching Steven Gerrard’s side in action against Standard Liege at Ibrox in the Europa League on Thursday evening.

Rangers won 3-2 to book their place in the knockout rounds of the European competition this season.

Tavernier scored the second goal for the Gers in first-half injury time from the penalty spot.

It was the former Newcastle United right-back’s second goal in the Europa League this season, according to WhoScored.

The 29-year-old has also scored nine goals and provided six assists in 15 Scottish Premiership games and has scored one goal in one Scottish League Cup appearance for the Gers so far this season, according to WhoScored.

According to Transfermarkt.co.uk, Tavernier has scored nine goals from penalties in all competitions so far this season.

Meanwhile, former Rangers star Alex Rae has given his take on the win for the Gers against Liege on Thursday evening, and believes that Steven Davis was the best player on the pitch at Ibrox.
