Diafra Sakho has completed a move from West Ham to Ligue 1 side Rennes.

West Ham United co-owner David Gold has responded to a fan’s suggestion that the Hammers supremo had lied over Diafra Sakho’s availability, by suggesting that the striker himself pretended he was injured over the weekend.

The 28-year-old completed a move to Ligue 1 side Rennes on Monday after almost an entire month of speculation surrounding the versatile forward’s future. He missed Saturday’s dismal FA Cup loss to League One side Wigan Athletic.

The eight-time Senegal international had entered the final months of his contract at the London Stadium and had repeatedly stated his desire to leave the east Londoners sooner rather than later.

Gold had claimed over the weekend that Sakho was sidelined with a knee injury, but a fan decided to bring up the fact that Sakho would have passed a medical before his move to Rennes. He criticised Gold, but got an equally as abrupt answer.

Gold, 81, claims Sakho lied to West Ham medical staff so he did not have to play against Wigan, and instead push through a move to join Rennes.

Sakho finally ends a three-and-a-half-year stint at West Ham after first signing for the club from Metz in July 2014. He went on to score 24 goals in 71 games, but his stay in east London was largely hampered by a number of injuries.

The Hammers are now left with just Javier Hernandez and Toni Martinez as fit strikers, with Andy Carroll, Andre Ayew and Marko Arnautovic sidelined.
