West Ham United have been linked with Quique Sanchez Flores and Walter Mazzarri.
West Ham United manager Slaven Bilic remains under pressure – but two of the links to potential replacements won’t go down too well with fans.
The Hammers drew 1-1 at Burnley on Saturday afternoon, meaning that they have now lost four of their first eight Premier League games this season, picking up eight points.
After clinging onto his job at the end of last season, manager Bilic is still under pressure, with speculation about his position rife given that his contract expires at the end of the season.
West Ham may choose to move on from the Croatian at the end of the season, but two of the rumours targets to replace him will do little to inspire West Ham fans.
Spanish newspaper Sport recently reported that Espanyol manager Quique Sanchez Flores is one target, whilst Sky Italia’s Gianluca Di Marzio claims that West Ham are also keen on Walter Mazzarri.
Both managers have coached huge clubs over the course of their careers, but fans would be forgiven for not being too excited about either manager, given that they both lost their jobs at Watford.
Sanchez Flores started well at Watford after taking the job in 2015, but his side faded badly before being replaced by Mazzarri, who didn’t impress at Vicarage Road last season having brought a fairly negative brand of football.
Flores won just 36% of his games in charge of Watford, whilst Mazzarri fared even worse, with his win rate with the Hornets standing at less than 30%.
The two managers have taken charge of a number of clubs, but their Premier League record during their short spells in England suggest that they wouldn’t be much better than Bilic – and West Ham owners David Gold and David Sullivan should think again if Flores and Mazzarri are leading candidates, with fans unlikely to be too happy.
