Kyle Walker has said that Kalvin Phillips should stay at Manchester City, amid speculation linking him with Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool.

The Daily Star reported in April that Liverpool are interested in signing Kalvin Phillips from Manchester City in the summer transfer window.

The report claimed that Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp personally wants the former Leeds United midfielder at Elland Road.

The Daily Star reported that the England international midfielder is open to a move to Liverpool, who are willing to pay £35 million for him.

City paid an initial transfer fee of £42 million to Leeds for Phillips last summer (Sky Sports).

City right-back Walker has raved about Phillips and wants him to stay at the Etihad Stadium, noting that he will win many more Premier League titles.

The former Tottenham Hotspur right-back made the comments about Phillips after City’s win against Chelsea on Sunday.

Pep Guardiola’s side have won the Premier League title this season, their third in a row.

The Manchester Evening News quotes Walker as saying about Phillips: “Kalvin [Phillips] has won one now and he’s going to win plenty more with this team.

“It’s a fantastic bunch of lads but it’s a special mention to him because this guy is the gent – seriously. He’s one of the nicest guys I’ve ever met in football and he deserves this. He deserves the Premier League and he deserves to get his minutes today.

“Hopefully just like a few of the other ones that have been here, it takes a long time to settle in because of the way the manager wants to play, but he’s shown his quality and that’s why the manager’s gone and bought him. He deserves everything he has.”

Kalvin Phillips should consider Manchester City stay amid Liverpool interest

In our view, Kalvin Phillips should not leave Manchester City after just one season, even for Liverpool.

Yes, the 27-year-old midfielder has been a peripheral figure at City this season, but that could change in the coming years.

We have seen with Jack Grealish that it can take a year for a new player to get used to the way Guardiola plays his football.

Phillips is a very good midfielder, and we believe that he could be a big success at City in the coming years.
