Leicester City are set to sign highly-rated midfielder Thanawat Suengchitthawon on a three-year deal after his departure from Nancy, his agent has told Eurosport.
In a deal reminiscent of Steve Walsh’s diamond-spotting heyday, the Foxes are set to snap up a little-known talent from across the Channel.
And while we should have reservations about comparing Suengchitthawon with Riyad Mahrez and N’Golo Kante, bargain signings turned title-winning legends, there are certainly similarities that can be drawn between their respective routes to the King Power Stadium.
The Mail reported over the weekend that Leicester were in advanced negotiations to make the soon-to-be free agent their first signing of the summer transfer window.
And while nothing has been officially confirmed from either side just yet, it seems that it is only a matter of time before a Thai midfielder joins a club with Thai owners.
“My player, Thanawat Suengchitthawon, is going to sign at Leicester for three years. Nancy did not even offer him a professional contract,” Erick Noubissie explains.

“I quickly got in touch with the Leicester sporting director (Jon Rudkin). I did not feel coldness or distance, but humility and efficiency.
“If Thanawat Suengchitthawon goes abroad, it is also because I have had no approach from French clubs.”
It remains to be seen whether the 20-year-old will fight for a place in Brendan Rodgers’s squad or whether he will play U23 football at Leicester.
With the Foxes under pressure to balance Premier League football with a Champions League run in 2020/21, there may be opportunities to impress for Suenghchitthawon under a coach renowned for giving young a chance.
