Gary Neville has suggested on Sky Sports Football (10:21pm, August 5, 2022) that Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta should start thinking about replacing Granit Xhaka in the team.

The former Manchester United star made the comments while discussing where Arsenal need to strengthen their team in the summer transfer window.

Neville believes that midfield is an area that Arsenal could do with bringing in a top-quality player, adding that the Gunners need to plan for when Switzerland international midfielder Xhaka is suspended.

Xhaka started for Arsenal against Crystal Palace on Friday evening and earned a yellow card in the Premier League game at Selhurst Park.

Neville said about Xhaka on Sky Sports Football (10:21pm, August 5, 2022): “Even Xhaka tonight, he got booked. I always think he is going to go and let you down.

“He is always going to let you down at some point in the season, so you think, you should plan for that now. You know it’s coming.”

Planning ahead

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has publicly said that he plans to make more signings in the summer transfer window.

Midfield is probably the area that the Gunners need to bring in another player.

Now, of course, Oleksandr Zinchenko joined from Manchester City in the summer transfer window, but he is not among the ‘elite’ yet.

Xhaka is a good player, but as we have seen time and time again, the £30 million Switzerland international midfielder (Sky Sports) does pick too many yellow and red cards and misses important games.
