According to Fabrizio Romano, Barcelona have offered Noussair Mazraoui a contract, with Arsenal and Leeds also monitoring his situation at Ajax.

What’s the story?

Well, it was ESPN who revealed that Arsenal and Leeds are interested in signing the Morocco international when his contract expires in June.

Now, however, it seems like the Premier League duo have been left behind as Barcelona make the first concrete move.

Romano believes the Spanish giants have made a proposal to the right-back, with Mazraoui said to be tempted by a move to the Camp Nou.

Furthermore, Romano confidently claims that the 24-year-old is going to leave Ajax this summer, and has discussed a move to Barcelona with his agent, Mino Raiola.

AC Milan and Borussia Dortmund are also interested in the Ajax defender.

As things stand, it seems as if Barcelona are the favourites.

Arsenal and Leeds shouldn’t be too concerned

In our view, Mazraoui is not a necessity for Arsenal or Leeds.

The Gunners already have an outstanding right-back in Takehiro Tomiyasu, with Cedric a reliable deputy to the Japan international.

At Leeds, Jesse Marsch can call upon Luke Ayling in that area, while he will also have the promising Cody Drameh back from his loan spell at Cardiff in time for the 2022/23 campaign.

As you can see, both clubs have good options in the right-back department, so they shouldn’t be too upset to hear that Barcelona have moved for Mazraoui.

Nevertheless, keep an eye on this saga, just in case Edu or Victor Orta decide to get involved.
