Speaking to GiveMeSport, Dean Jones has been discussing Djed Spence and his future at Tottenham Hotspur.

Spence arrived at Spurs this summer with plenty of fanfare after a lengthy transfer chase, but sadly, he’s barely gotten a game since he arrived in north London a few months ago.

Indeed, Emerson Royal and Matt Doherty have both regularly been selected ahead of Spence, and according to Jones, Spence is beginning to want answers about his situation.

The journalist says that the defender has pencilled in a meeting with Antonio Conte about his options and what may be the best for him going forward.

Spence to speak to Conte

Jones shared what he knows about the right-back.

“They’re going to have a chat about that soon. He will consider his options and what might be best for him,” Jones said.

“Beyond that, I think it is a bit too soon to be contemplating who else might come in.”

Get a loan

Spence is going to speak to Conte, and it wouldn’t surprise us one bit if the end result of this conversation is that the pair decide that the best course of action is for the former Middlesbrough man to go out on loan.

Let’s be honest, Spence has gone in at the deep end with Tottenham in the Premier League, before this season he’d never played a single minute of top-flight football, and stepping up to one of the big six is a huge ask.

Joining a mid-to-lower table team on loan may be his best course of action so he can grow more accustomed to the rigours and demands of playing at this level.
