Don Hutchison has suggested on Twitter that Everton appointing Rafa Benitez as their new manager is ‘going to end in tears’.

Years and years after warming the dugout over at Liverpool, it seems as though Benitez is going to make the short trip across the city and don the colours of Everton for next season.

Sky Sports report that the out-of-work manager, whose family still live on Merseyside since his Liverpool days, is close to being appointing the Toffees manager.

There have been a fair few who have either walked either touchline or donned the colours of both Merseyside giants out on the pitch during their careers.

And ex-midfielder, Hutchison, so happens to be one of them, as he reacted to the Benitez news on Twitter:

At the end of the day, football supporters can be pretty fickle.

It’s understandable why this is a talking point, but if Benitez so happens to start in a strong fashion then all the talk of his past Liverpool connections will be forgotten about.

An appointment like this, where you are looking to bring in a club legend from your rivals, would be a talking point at most clubs.

And if it is confirmed that Benitez is Everton’s next manager then it will be interesting to see how he fairs over at Goodison Park, especially at a club that will allow him to splash some cash.

That wasn’t the case during his previous stint in the Premier League when he was the manager at Newcastle.

And this Everton squad is much stronger than the one he had at St James’ Park, so a lot of eyes will be on Merseyside next season.
