It was reported a fortnight ago that Liverpool were worrying West Ham United.
Jarrod Bowen has been tentatively linked with a transfer to Liverpool quite a bit over the past nine months or so.
However, The Times reported in January that West Ham were concerned about the Anfield outfit potentialy moving for the former Hull City attacker this summer.
And honestly, this is a genuine concern based on current form.
The 25-year-old was the Hammers’ FA Cup hero this past weekend as David Moyes’s outfit narrowly edged out Kidderminster Harriers in extra time.
And the Liverpool-linked player rescued West Ham again on Tuesday, scoring the only goal of the game as United beat Watford 1-0 in East London.
In doing so, Bowen now has seven Premier League goals this season – one shy of his highest top-flight total for West Ham – and Declan Rice has told BBC Sport that his teammate is ‘going to be a star’.
He said: “Without his goals we’d be struggling. He’s really stepped it up. His goals and assists – he’s a really top player and he’s going to be a star.”
Consolation
West Ham supporters can console themselves with the knowledge that if Liverpool do sign Bowen, it’ll be for a fortune.
The Irons spent £22 million on signing Bowen from Hull a little over two years ago.
And with another three-and-a-half years left on his existing contract – which will be three this summer – then it’s safe to say that the East Londoners hold all the cards.
In the event of him joining Liverpool, West Ham would make one heck of a profit.
However, with Moyes’s outfit now fourth in the Premier League standings, well perhaps a spot in the Champions League next season might mean that the player is perfectly happy to continue with the Hammers beyond the summer transfer window.
