Jamie Redknapp spoke in awe of the ‘amazing’ Liverpool target Gavi and how he is going to be a ‘revelation’, as he told Sky Sports Football.
Most teenagers are still trying to break their way into the senior side at the domestic level, but Gavi is donning the colours of his country, and that on a big stage.
On Sunday, he started for Spain in their UEFA Nations League final defeat to France – and Liverpool fans were impressed by what they saw from the player.
El Nacional have reported that Liverpool want to sign the Spanish midfielder and they would be willing to pay his £34 million release clause.
Gavi isn’t the only thriving Barcelona youngster that has been linked with the Merseyside giants because Pedri’s name has also been mentioned previously.
Nonetheless, Redknapp was left wowed by the forward-thinking talent in Gavi’s game and how he is a player for the future.
“Gavi, 17-years-old,” said Redknapp. “Amazing. It’s so good for him to have the experience of Busquets next to him.
“He can drive with the ball, like all great players, he plays with his head up. Dribbles, left foot and right foot. It doesn’t matter which side he is on.
“Every time he gets the ball, he looks to make something happen. He looks to pass forward. He is always running at defenders. He is different.
“If he carries on in this trajectory then he is going to be a revelation – He has got skills, he is going to be a player this kid.”

Amid Barcelona’s financial troubles, one thing they don’t want to do is to be forced to sell some of their highly-rated youngsters.
Gavi, Pedri and Ansu Fati fall into the mould and if the Catalan side can get them going then they may just paper over the financial cracks at the club.
But that shouldn’t stop other teams from trying to lure their talent towards their direction because there isn’t going to be a better chance to target them during such a vulnerable period of their history.
