England boss Gareth Southgate has admitted to ESPN that Liverpool’s Jordan Henderson may not be able to feature on Wednesday evening.

Henderson is just returning from a muscular injury, and is not quite fully fit yet.

And Southgate admits that he may opt not to risk the Liverpool midfielder for England’s next game against Denmark.

“Jordan is a little bit more complicated because with his club, he had 60 in his first match then 45 the following week so we are going to have to assess him very carefully,” he said.

Liverpool would likely prefer it if Southgate does not select Henderson.

The Reds are already suffering with injury problems, with Alisson sidelined, and they will not want any of their players picking up an issue over the international break.

Henderson’s leadership qualities will be key for Liverpool at the weekend, as they face a Merseyside derby against high-flying Everton.

Liverpool lost their last game 7-2 to Aston Villa, and they will know that big questions will be asked, if they are beaten by the Toffees on Saturday.
