Robbie Keane has stated that Mo Salah went ‘down in instalments’ whilst asking for a penalty during Liverpool’s 1-0 win at Burnley, as he told Premier League Productions (13/02/22 at 2:55 pm).
The former striker made it clear that Liverpool shouldn’t have been awarded a spot-kick in the first half and suggested Salah went to ground too easily.
Whilst many fantasy Premier League players were hoping Salah, 29, would get on the scoresheet at Turf Moor.
It was an unlikely hero in Fabinho who scored the only goal of the game for the Reds, who continued hunting down the runaway leaders, Manchester City.
But, regarding that penalty shout, Keane was having none of it from Salah and his calls to win a spot-kick.
“No, not for me,” said Keane. “It’s a bit soft and Burnley nearly go at the other end and score.
“It was a little tug. But there wasn’t enough contact – it’s soft for me. He goes down in instalments. A little too late.”
Before the game, Jurgen Klopp opted to drop Luis Diaz and the in-form, Diogo Jota to the bench, with the returning, Africa Cup of Nations winner, Sadio Mane, being flung straight into the XI.
Given the start Diaz has had on Merseyside, the fact that Jota is the second top-scorer in the Premier League, it just proves the ammunition Klopp has under his locker.
With Champions League games, FA Cup matches and a League Cup final coming up, it’s understandable why changes are being made.
But, for once, Liverpool fans must be pleased to have serious depth in quality in their forward lines.
