Simon Mignolet is backing Lazar Markovic to be a Premier League success at Liverpool, but admits everyone at Anfield has to pull together.

Lazar Markovic opened his Premier League goal account on Saturday, with a solitary strike enough to help Liverpool past Sunderland.

The Serbia international has started to offer more of a return on the sizeable summer investment made in his services over recent weeks, with the 20-year-old also on target in a Capital One Cup clash with Bournemouth in December.

He arrived in England as a winger with a reputation for being a scorer of goals as well as a creator of them.

Brendan Rodgers is now unlocking that potential, with the youngster still adjusting to life in new surroundings following a productive year in Portugal with Benfica after leaving his homeland.

Markovic is being tipped to make a major impact over the remainder of the campaign, with Liverpool goalkeeper Simon Mignolet looking for all of those in the Anfield squad to help spark a surge towards the finishing post.

He told the club’s official website: “He’s a really good player. He’s quick, he’s got the ability to score goals, to run forward and take players on and that’s what he’s done. Hopefully he can do that a lot more this season.

“But it’s not only about individuals, it’s about the whole team. We want to win games as a unit and if we can do that altogether, it makes it easier for us to win those three points. We’ll keep doing that.

“We have to keep climbing the table and keep working hard. At the moment, we’re getting the points and getting the victories that we want. We have to keep doing that.

“There’s no point in being happy with how things are going and what has been. It’s more about what is coming and the next few games are very important to us. We have to look forward to those.”

Liverpool still have five more fixtures to come in January, spread across three competitions.

Aston Villa and West Ham United will be tackled in the Premier League, while they also have an FA Cup fourth round date with Bolton Wanderers to look forward to and a two-legged Capital One Cup semi-final with Chelsea.

Such a run will test Rodgers’ squad to the fullest, with it important for him to have fresh legs and players full of confidence to bring in when the games start to stack up.
