The Ipswich Town boss began his playing career at Barnsley.

Ipswich Town fans want Barnsley to come and take Mick McCarthy off their hands.
Ipswich manager McCarthy – who is from Barnsley and began his playing career with the Reds – is 5/1 to succeed Paul Heckingbottom at Oakwell [Sky Bet].
And while the 59-year-old is still behind Danny Cowley, Simon Grayson, Paul Harsley and Garry Monk in the betting, many Ipswich followers hope there is indeed substance to the speculation – despite McCarthy having led their side to a top-half finish on three occasions with a limited budget.
Given the replies to Barnsley’s tweet to McCarthy on his birthday on Wednesday, however, Ipswich fans’ trash would be Tykes fans’ treasure…
McCarthy, who has also managed Sunderland and Wolverhampton Wanderers to the Premier League, is out of contract at Portman Road in May.
Speaking to the Eastern Daily Press last year, the Yorkshire-Irishman hinted he could walk away from Town at that point, after five-and-a-half years at the helm.
Could McCarthy quit Ipswich to become Barnsley’s next manager?
