Steve McClaren to Sunderland? Newcastle fans would just love it.
Sunderland manager David Moyes
David Moyes resigned as Sunderland boss yesterday, after a gloomy and dismal season at the Stadium of Light.
Sunderland were relegated and Moyes clearly did not fancy his chances at getting the club promoted, with The BBC reporting he will receive no pay off.
The Black Cats are now spending time working out who they should put their faith in, and are not the only ones.
Sunderland fans
Fellow North East side Middlesbrough are also looking for a new manager, with Aitor Karanka departing before their relegation was confirmed.
It leaves Newcastle United enjoying superiority in the region, having clinched promotion and having one of Europe’s top bosses at the helm in Rafa Benitez.
The tables have turned considerably from 12 months ago, when they were looking up at their rivals from the Championship.
Newcastle fans have not missed out on their opportunity to gloat, and believe they have identified the perfect choice as David Moyes’ replacement…
Available… Steve McClaren
Step forward Steve McClaren, Newcastle’s former boss who set them on the path to relegation last season.
We can’t imagine any Sunderland fan would take gladly to this appointment…
