Middleton joined Rangers in January from English Championship side Norwich City.
Rangers youngster Glenn Middleton has told the Scottish Sun that his move from Norwich City to Ibrox will hold him in good stead north of the border, and is eager to impress under Steven Gerrard.
The 18-year-old was frozen out of Norwich despite his tender age before moving to Rangers, with Graeme Murty’s past Norwich connections helping Rangers complete a move for the talented winger.
Middleton has since impressed in the Gers’ second string under Billy Kirkwood, regularly getting his name on the score sheet with fans calling for the winger to be given a chance in the first team.
A two-time Scotland Under-21 international, Middleton’s gritty and determined comments about his move from Norwich and Rangers will surely impress new manager Gerrard – who Middleton stated that he is excited to work under.
“To get that experience [Norwich], albeit a negative one, so young will help me long-term. I’ve learnt that things aren’t straightforward,” Middleton said. “I know now I’m not going to reach the top just by turning up for training every day.
“Someone’s going to say something you don’t like or someone will do things you don’t agree with. Even when you’re doing well you can still get a kick up the backside.
“No matter how well you think you’re doing, someone’s opinion is going to be different. That’s where I was lucky in that the people at Rangers had a different opinion. The previous connection with Graeme helped me, now everyone is excited by working under Steven Gerrard.”
Middleton has plenty of competition ahead of him in the Rangers pecking order, after Jamie Murphy completed a permanent move to Rangers from Premier League side Brighton.
Josh Windass and Daniel Candeias can also play out wide, while Gerrard is reportedly closing in on the loan signing of Liverpool youngster Ovie Ejaria. But Middleton’s attitude will surely impress Gerrard.
