Glenn Loovens will not feature for Sheffield Wednesday against Nottingham Forest in the Championship this weekend.
Loovens has missed Wednesday’s last four matches in all competitions due to a hip problem.
The 33-year-old central defender suffered the injury during the Owls’ 1-1 draw with Queens Park Rangers at the Hillsborough Stadium in August.
The Owls will return to action on Saturday evening when they take on Nottingham Forest at home in the Championship.
The former Feyenoord and Celtic centre-back has admitted that he is unlikely to play against Forest, and has conceded that he does not know when he will be back in action.
“It’s probably not realistic that I will be back for Forest,” Loovens told The Star. “I don’t know when I will be back playing again.
“It’s an injury they can’t really predict and I have to see how my body reacts to training. I’ve missed three weeks now and not really had a pre-season. I need a bit of time to come back to full fitness.”
Wednesday have some very good central defenders, but Loovens is one of the best in his position and is also the club captain.
For the Owls to have a successful 2017-18 Championship campaign, they need the former Cardiff City and Zaragoza centre-back to return to fitness as soon as possible.
The Dutchman has been on the books of Wednesday since December 2013 when he joined them on a free transfer, as reported by BBC Sport.
