Glenn Hoddle has told BT Sport that Tottenham defender Clement Lenglet produced his best performance in a Spurs shirt since joining the club on loan from Barcelona in the summer – despite Spurs failing to beat Eintracht Frankfurt.
Coming into the match after losing to Sporting Lisbon away from home, Spurs had to get something out of Tuesday night’s clash. But they came up against the Europa League winners in a hostile ground. A clean sheet is a decent result.
The France international was handed his fifth start, after coming into the side following an injury suffered by Ben Davies. He has started both games in the Champions League in which Spurs have kept clean sheets – Marseille, too.
Discussing his performance on Thursday evening after the 0-0 draw, ex-Tottenham man Hoddle thinks Lenglet gave his best performance for the North London club: “He did play well. Probably his best performance in a Spurs shirt, for me.”

Is Lenglet now first choice? It is a tricky one. Davies has the admiration of fans for his work rate and his adaptation under Antonio Conte. But Lenglet, at his best, eclipses Davies. Whether he can return to that level, remains to be seen.
But against Frankfurt, he showed he still has the ability to shine – and under Antonio Conte, he can do so. One thing is for sure, if Lenglet keeps these kind of performances up, Spurs will be desperate to strike a permanent deal for him.
He is on loan until the end of the season – without a permanent option in his contract. Barcelona paid a big fee of £32million to sign Lenglet from Sevilla. If Spurs are to bring him in, it is likely he will not cost as much as that.
