Glenn Hoddle has told The Analysis Show that Anthony Gordon is a real “find” as he continues to shine in his first, proper breakthrough season at Everton. He has three goals in his last five Premier League matches.
Lampard secured a second win in three games as Everton manager on Saturday, and his first in the Premier League over Leeds. A comfortable 3-0 win, that saw Gordon inadvertently flick a Richarlison shot into the net.
The 20-year-old has been superb of late – now boasting six goal involvements in 22 games. He has played 22 of his 42 senior Everton outings this term, after 11 outings on loan at Preston last season.
Hoddle spoke about Gordon in his analysis of Everton’s 3-0 weekend win and he thinks Lampard has already stumbled across a real talent in Gordon. He is intrigued to see how good the midfielder will be in two or three years.
‘Gordon has been excellent. He’s a find, he’s only going to get better. Where he will be in two or three years time will be very interesting,” Hoddle said on the Analysis Show, as per Australian streaming service Optus Sport.
Hoddle on Gordon: Everton star starting to earn praise from afar
Gordon is a top talent and Hoddle, a former attacking midfield himself, recognises a player with quality in that area. Gordon can play on either flank or as a 10. Going forward, he will be pivotal to Everton.
The signings of Dele Alli, Demarai Gray and Andros Townsend might see Gordon struggle to start week in, week out. But he does have one big advantage and that is, he is born in Liverpool.
It gives him the hunger that some of his signed teammates do not have. It gives him that affinity with fans, and in technical terms, he is a homegrown player. Gordon is the future of Everton and Hoddle recognises that.
