Glenn Hoddle has praised Arsenal captain Martin Odegaard and added that he is ‘brave’ on the ball even if he makes mistakes, as he told Premier League Productions (12/11/22 at 9:55 pm).

On Saturday evening, Mikel Arteta’s side opened up a five-point lead at the top of the Premier League table after Arsenal’s 2-0 win over Wolves – Manchester City were beaten thanks to a last-minute Ivan Toney winner for Brentford hours earlier.

It was the man with the armband who scored both goals in the second half, as the Gunners will be sitting on top of the tree heading into Christmas.

That was also Odegaard’s sixth Premier League goal of this campaign, as the 23-year-old is starting to enjoy his best goalscoring season in Arsenal colours.

Hoddle touched upon how he is now starting to ‘get into the penalty area’ and putting his name on the scoresheet, as he praised the player for his bravery.

“I think he’s a captain in the sense that he is brave on the ball,” said Hoddle. “If he makes a couple of mistakes, it doesn’t matter to him.

“He’s now got that confidence to still thread that ball. And he’s now getting into the penalty area and scoring goals.”

ODEGAARD IS AN UNDERRATED FIGURE

One of the first names on the team sheet and a player that is growing week by week in north London and under the stewardship of Mikel Arteta.

When Arsenal initially signed Odegaard, he joined on loan from Real Madrid, before he returned to the La Liga giants in the summer.

It seemed as though his long-term future remained in Madrid, until Arsenal decided to secure his services on a permanent basis, and since then, they haven’t looked back.
