The Tottenham Hotspur man is a hugely talented footballer.

Glenn Hoddle has told The Express that Tottenham Hotspur fans should be excited about the prospect of keeping Dele Alli for a long time.

The 20-year-old is one of the most exciting young players in Europe after his brilliant breakthrough season with Tottenham last term.

The England midfielder has already been compared to Hoddle, who spent 12 years at Spurs and is widely considered to be one of the North Londoners’ greatest ever footballers.

The former Tottenham boss was asked if Alli could go on to become the Lilywhites’ greatest ever player, and Hoddle says that “possibility” is certainly a very exciting one for supporters and the club itself.

“If he stays at the club for a long time and produces the goals he can produce then I think there’s a possibility,” he said to The Express. “That’s the exciting thing for Tottenham fans and the future of the club.

“We are different players in style but he’s got a belief about himself. He’s a young player who came in and I don’t think he was going to be bullied by anybody.

“I was 17 when I went in and you have to be strong-minded. You have to believe in yourself. I had that belief and Dele Alli has got that as well. Long may that continue for club and country.”

The England international is of course a fine talent and he will improve as the season goes, but so far, he only has one assist and it’s not enough for an attacking midfielder at a title-challenging club.

He scored 10 and set up nine in the Premier League last term, and has four goals and one assist this time around, but those numbers will surely increase from now until May.
