Glenn Hoddle questions why Danny Rose risked a red card against APOEL.
Danny Rose ended up having a very mixed night for Tottenham as they beat APOEL Nicosia 3-0.
He defended well and contributed towards Spurs keeping a clean sheet at Wembley for the first time in the Champions League this season, and got forward as much as he could.
But Rose was also a little fortunate not to receive a red card for fouling his opponent midway through the second half and appearing to give him a little push.
Former Spurs star and manager Glenn Hoddle questioned why Rose felt the need to do so.
Hoddle told BT Sport’s post-game coverage: “There’s something wrong inside him to to that.
“You’re coasting, 3-0 up, and he’s got himself wound up.”
Minutes later he was injured himself and was substituted, leading to an abrupt discussion with head coach Mauricio Pochettino.
Pochettino insisted he be taken off, despite Rose’s determination to play on, and he headed straight down the tunnel.
Rose did emerge after the game, and head coach Mauricio Pochettino played down the incident, BBC Sport reported, attributing it to the defender’s will to impress.
