Speaking on the Seaman Says Podcast, Glenn Hoddle has been speaking about Tottenham’s start to the season so far and Antonio Conte.

Spurs may be unbeaten in the Premier League up to this point, but the north London outfit have been far from convincing in a number of their matches so far this term.

They battered Southampton and Leicester, but they limped over the line against both Fulham and Wolves, while also dropping points against Chelsea and West Ham.

Hoddle hasn’t been blown away by his former club so far, and he’s even claimed that there isn’t that much difference between how Spurs are playing now and how they performed under Jose Mourinho.

What’s been said?

Hoddle spoke about Conte’s team and Mourinho’s spell at the club.

“It’s ok while it’s going well, but I’m going to be quite controversial here and say that I can’t see too much of a difference between the way Mourinho set the team up to how Conte is setting the team up, but Spurs fans weren’t having Mourinho, but Mourinho was top often league after a few games that season. They’re playing with the handbrake on a bit and there’s much more to come,” Hoddle said.

More dynamic

Mourinho’s Spurs and Conte’s Spurs may not be all that different to look at right this second, but the difference is that Conte can change his tactics at the drop of a hat.

The Italian can seamlessly switch between a 3-5-2 and a 3-4-3, favouring either defence or attack depending on the opposition.

In contract, as much was we hate to besmirch one of the greatest managers ever, Mourinho, in recent years, has become something of a one-trick pony, and that’s why his Spurs team quickly faded after such a bright start to the 2020/21 season.
