Dele Alli has struggled to mirror last season’s form for Tottenham this time around.

Glenn Hoddle has told Football London that he expects Tottenham Hotspur playmaker Dele Alli to ignore the critics during the second half of the season and at this summer’s World Cup, as he fails to replicate his 2016-17 form.
The 21-year-old scored 22 goals in all competitions last season, as well as adding 13 assists. But this time around, the England international has found the back of the net just nine times – with two of those coming in the Carabao Cup against Barnsley and West Ham.
The former MK Dons ace is coming under increasing scrutiny for his diving, flinging himself to the floor on Sunday during the 2-2 draw against Liverpool as he tried to trick the referee into pointing to the spot.

However, his creativity has remained and Hoddle believes Alli’s critics will not affect Spurs’ number 20, as he continues to shine in England’s top flight despite his age.
“Dele Alli will just get on with his job and he’s a top threat. He’ll maintain getting into the penalty area and scoring goals.” Hoddle said.
“He’s had a slightly indifferent season, but he’s still affected the game. He will affect the game as he’s a box threat and he likes to score goals. He’s done that time and time again over the last few seasons and we forget how young he is.
“It’s such an important position nowadays in that role if they play the player in behind the striker. It’s not a free role, it’s the hub of the team. It comes with a difference to winning games and being the difference.”

Alli could be in action on Wednesday night as Spurs go up against League Two minnows Newport County in a fourth-round FA Cup replay at Wembley, after last month’s 1-1 draw saw Harry Kane score a late equaliser.
However, Mauricio Pochettino could rest his playmaker in order to keep him fresh for Saturday as Spurs play host to north London rivals Arsenal in a lunchtime kick-off at Wembley.
