Glenn Hoddle has told his self-titled podcast that Jose Mourinho should not be sacked.

Mourinho has come in for fierce criticism at Tottenham, with the North London side currently sat in ninth place in the Premier League table.

However, Hoddle has labelled calls for Mourinho to go ‘ridiculous’ and he insists that the Portuguese boss should be given more time to put things right.

“I don’t. Not at the moment,” the Spurs legend said, when asked if Mourinho should go.

“There’s a lot of calls from fans. I think second half, every attacking option Mourinho had was on the football pitch. They hit the bar and the post and it could have gone a different way.

“He’s been brought in to bring some silverware and he’s in the cup final. How can you sack someone who’s got a cup final coming along? It’s ridiculous. That’s the reason he’s been brought in.

“Consistency and all the other things that’ll maybe change over time, but I think he’s earned the right with what he’s done over his career to be given more time.”

If Mourinho is to convince Tottenham supporters that he is the right man for the job then the next few weeks could be crucial.

Spurs’s upcoming games look winnable on paper, and a few victories could change the mood around the club significantly.

The Athletic have reported how Tottenham are unlikely to sack Mourinho in mid-season, but his position may well be assessed in the summer now.

There is no doubting that Spurs are under-performing given the attacking talent in their squad, and if they finish in their current position of ninth – then it is hard to see how Mourinho keeps his job, unless he is able to deliver silverware.
