The former Tottenham boss has been reflecting on the north London side’s Europa League win.
Glenn Hoddle was delighted for Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Ryan Mason after his goal in the Europa League on Thursday night, according to ITV Football.
Mason scored as Tottenham beat the Serie A side 3-0 – avenging their elimination by the same team last season.
But Hoddle was unhappy about Dele Alli’s booking and subsequent suspension. Indeed, the pundit admitted Alli could have been sent off in the first leg but says his yellow card for simulation was harsh against Fiorentina.
On Mason, Hoddle told ITV on Thursday night: “I’m really pleased for him. He’s been so frustrated with injuries. And it’d be good for him to stay fit as Tottenham need him now with so many games.”
Meanwhile, on Alli’s booking and subsequent suspension, the pundit said: “He’s been harshly dealt there. Last week, he could have got sent off. But that was a harsh yellow and it’s not simulation.”
Intriguingly, Tottenham, Liverpool and Manchester United can all draw each other in the last 16 of the Europa League.
And, whoever Spurs get, Alli will certainly be a huge miss. But the likes of Mason have stepped in to demonstrate Tottenham’s strength in depth.
Harry Kane was missing against Fiorentina, meanwhile, and Mauricio Pochettino’s men still won 3-0.
